Logos an' Shtuff
A series of logo designs for Oregon Tech Broadcasting. Just as I made this post I had forgotten the T goes before the B. Why I keep doing that I don't know :[ But I'll fix it later.

More Owls
A more finished version of the illustration I'm making for Oregon Tech Broadcasting. Color and all. I just need to incorporate some of the school's colors into it (blue and gold) which I'm still thinking about how I'm going to do. And then I guess I've also be asked to create an entirely new logo title for them, so instead of copying and pasting it at the top of this picture I'll be making a new one.

COOKIES!
This is the final animatic I created for my storyboarding class. I wanted to do it in the style of the cartoon show Ed, Edd, n Eddy for some reason. I think it didn't turn out half bad. For my next animatic though I'm going to make sure to add sound effects, music, and funny noises.
Dark Necromancer of the Office
This is the Final I did for my Character Design class. Rim-lighting, the yellow side lighting for the turn about of the character, is interesting that it seems to make anything you put it on look more dimensional.

People Sketches - 4/5/13
I've discovered that I need to work on developing my figure drawing and life sketching more, so expect to see more of that. In these sketches, I try to sort of create a simple story or frame of mind in that particular moment, some of these do that better than others, but I'm going to keep working on it.
And just a word of advice for anyone who cares or doesn't think of me as a complete failure as a visual artist. If you're more familiar with drawing, you'd know that the "gesture" is the first part of a drawing and essential is the armature that gives your characters their poses and actions as well as your still-lives (subjects that aren't moving or alive) their general space relationships and shapes. It's the first step AND the most important step of any drawing. My advice is that when drawing the gesture, to look more at your subject than your paper, this will not only better tell you the pose, but will also help you check spacial relationships. So yeah, I'm not a great artist yet but I do think this is helpful advice for anyone wanting to doodle from life well.

Final Character Designs for Class
This are my finished character designs for my Character Design class. I worked to create them in the style of Ryan Jones, unfortunately I'm not that great of a painter or a colorist, but I plan to practice it more.
The bottom character is Jacob "Eights" Yeats, he and his brother (not shown here) were in charge of keeping Chinese railroad workers in line for the railroad company. Both of them are heavy gamblers. I envisioned them as a Disney henchmen duo that though still dastardly were sort of villains you could laugh at for their arguments with each other. But they are still evil and in the story we're working on, they kill the uncle of the main characters.
The other character, or creature, is a mythical chinese unicorn known as a Qilin, which I personally went about mixing up the proportions for fun. They're know for protecting and enduring all life, but punishing those who endanger the others.

Sketchbook Dump
My first sketchbook dump. Now every character here is suppose to be part of a separate story, one about a necromancer, another about robots, and the humanoid rat things are character ideas for my friend Alia who's a writer, and a badass one at that.
Style Practice
Qilin

This is my rough character design for a mythical Chinese creature called a Quilin. I'll make sure to post the finished thing once I've got it.
The style, or at least the line work so far, I'm trying to make look like the style of Ryan David Jones, an awesome character and concept illustrator who I believe has had his style incorporated into some Telltale point and click adventure games like Tales of Monkey Island and Sam and Max the Devil's Playhouse

Intro
Hello world. My Name is Calvin. I have intentions of writing, illustrating, animating, and maybe a little programming. I'm currently a student of Digipen Institute of Technology, but from my experience as of thus far, though it's easier to learn things at a big fancy school, there's no certainly that they're capable of making you good if you just concentrate on passing classes, only you can ensure that you'll have the skills to be good at what you plan to do.
