Final Character Designs for Class

This are my finished character designs for my Character Design class. I worked to create them in the style of Ryan Jones, unfortunately I'm not that great of a painter or a colorist, but I plan to practice it more.

The bottom character is Jacob "Eights" Yeats, he and his brother (not shown here) were in charge of keeping Chinese railroad workers in line for the railroad company. Both of them are heavy gamblers. I envisioned them as a Disney henchmen duo that though still dastardly were sort of villains you could laugh at for their arguments with each other. But they are still evil and in the story we're working on, they kill the uncle of the main characters.

The other character, or creature, is a mythical chinese unicorn known as a Qilin, which I personally went about mixing up the proportions for fun. They're know for protecting and enduring all life, but punishing those who endanger the others.

Sketchbook Dump

My first sketchbook dump. Now every character here is suppose to be part of a separate story, one about a necromancer, another about robots, and the humanoid rat things are character ideas for my friend Alia who's a writer, and a badass one at that.

Style Practice

These were just a sort of practice to try to get into Ryan David Jone. Hopefully you can tell who these characters are. If not, from left to right to bottom, it's Stitch from Lilo and Stitch, Fluttershy from MLP-FIM (long live the Bronyhood), and Finn from Adventure Time.

Qilin

This is my rough character design for a mythical Chinese creature called a Quilin. I'll make sure to post the finished thing once I've got it.

The style, or at least the line work so far, I'm trying to make look like the style of Ryan David Jones, an awesome character and concept illustrator who I believe has had his style incorporated into some Telltale point and click adventure games like Tales of Monkey Island and Sam and Max the Devil's Playhouse

Idea Sketches

These are some Idea Sketches I made recently as ideas for a short animated feature. For some reason I wanted to do them in the style of Ed, Edd, n Eddy.

At the moment I had 3 ideas for short humous tales. One was of a conductor back in the time of Beethoven and Mozart who looses his music notes. The next was of a zombie who tries to look good by putting on a tie. And the last of was of little hyperactive imaginative kid with ADD who eats too much sugar.

Intro

Hello world. My Name is Calvin. I have intentions of writing, illustrating, animating, and maybe a little programming. I'm currently a student of Digipen Institute of Technology, but from my experience as of thus far, though it's easier to learn things at a big fancy school, there's no certainly that they're capable of making you good if you just concentrate on passing classes, only you can ensure that you'll have the skills to be good at what you plan to do.
